The drought has dominated the past few weeks and also challenged our young vines. đąâď¸ In our young vineyard, Souvignier Gris, we have therefore deliberately reduced the grape yield. Not because we want a smaller harvest â but because we want to protect our young vines.
This allows the vines to concentrate their energy on root growth and healthy development. Especially in this dry year, this is crucial so that they can continue to produce high-quality grapes for many years to come.
Fewer grapes also mean higher quality: The remaining berries ripen more evenly and develop more intense aromas. Quality doesn’t begin in the cellar, but in the vineyard.
While our loess soils store a lot of water, these reserves are almost depleted after the long dry spell. Now we urgently hope for substantial rain so that our young vineyards can recover. đ§ď¸ For us, thinking sustainably also means making decisions today that ensure a healthy future for our vines.
